Every day we receive hundreds of donations, some of those donated items are antiques, one-of-a-kinds or just plain unique. Either our sales floor staff or our small donation volunteers work to pull those special items aside and then start the research process. What is the value of this item? Where else can you buy this item? What is the story behind this item? We take that information and create a bid sheet which includes an item description, auction end date, minimum starting bid, minimum bid amount and a buy-it-now price. The buy-it-now price is a fairly new aspect to our Silent Auction, allowing bidders to purchase the item straight out of the auction for a price we have already set (think eBay).
To participate in the silent auction: you receive a bidder ID number from the Customer Service Desk (we respect your privacy) and you place your bid on the specified bid sheet. You can bid on the item as many times as you want until the auction end date. (Note: all of our auctions end at 12:00 p.m.) You do not have to be present to win your item. One of our sales floor associates will call you the day the auction ends to let you know if you are the winner. Then you have two business days (we’re open Monday-Saturday) to come pick it up.
Items that go through our silent auction include: rare artwork and photography, autographed movie scripts and novels, expensive jewelry and clothing, vintage board games and toys, etc. These items do change every week, so check out our website (http://www.restoredurhamorange.org/silentauction/) or our Facebook album (https://www.facebook.com/ReStoreDurhamOrange/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1032169813513628) for the updated items and start bidding!
