Program Overview

One of the best recruitment tools for a volunteer program, are the volunteers themselves. This program uses current volunteers to go out into the community to tell everyone about how they themselves volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and how the community can get involved.

This program has designated literature set up for volunteers to take with them to churches, schools, and other community events if they choose. The ReStore Volunteer Program Manager simply asks that anyone who wants to be a part of this Liaison Program let them know, and obtain the materials and “spiel” for the volunteer program.

Materials Available:

  • Small green two-sided “postcard” with generic volunteer information
  • Page size flier with generic volunteer information- Flyer
  • FAQ’s fact sheet on how to get involved volunteering and a list of roles that one can do within the ReStore
  • List of Volunteer Roles within the ReStore (can be enlarged for easier viewing)
  • Uniquely Upcycled volunteer information(repurposing)-Flyer
  • Spring Break volunteer push- Flyer
  • Information regarding court ordered community service
  • Volunteer Program Manager’s Business cards

The ReStore simply could not operate without the help and hard work of all of the volunteers that come through the doors each and every day. Take a moment to think about why YOU chose to volunteer at the ReStore, and think about the individuals that you come in contact with. Who do you know that would make a great fit here on the ReStore Team?

Perhaps you know someone who has an outgoing personality and would enjoy volunteering at the customer service or as a greeter at the front door? Maybe you know someone who knows how to use power tools and loves repurposing items?

Let individuals know why the ReStore exists.

  • Give a short spiel on what Habitat for Humanity is, and how the ReStore financially supports the mission.
  • Tell them how the ReStore is primarily operated by volunteers, so we are always looking for new volunteers to help us take the store in a direction where we can sell more items, to make more money, to help build more homes.
  • Go over your specific role within the ReStore, and tell them why you enjoy volunteering here so much.
  • Let them know why you think that they’d make a great volunteer in the same area, or another one of our volunteer spots!

Then you can either help them sign up for a general Welcome Session, or you can speak with the VPM about “Bringing a Friend” with you when you regularly volunteer. This way they can shadow you while you are volunteering, and they can decide if they would like to start volunteering with the ReStore on a regular basis. If they do decide to continue to volunteer, we’ll get them trained in the ReStore’s policies and procedures, and help them figure out the right volunteer schedule for them!
