Purpose of the Position: To operate a revenue-generating BookStore in the ReStore by contributing to the process of sorting, pricing, and displaying books and offering ideas and efforts toward continual improvement of the quality of the BookStore.
Key Activities:
- Evaluate and sort incoming book donations.
- Price books with values below or above posted book prices.
- Shelve and display processed books in their proper places on the sales floor.
- Straighten and reorganize already shelved books when necessary.
- Participate in meetings aimed to promote advancement of the organization and operation of the BookStore.
Location: Habitat for Humanity ReStore; 5501 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd. Durham, NC 27707
Time Commitment:
- Duration of 2 months or more.
- Minimum average of one shift (2 hours) every 2 weeks.
Required Training:
- An orientation to the ReStore and its volunteer program.
- A policy and procedural training session.
- 3 training/shadowing shifts.
- Additional training sessions, as necessary, for review or store changes.
Supervision:
- Administrative support provided by the Volunteer Program Manager.
- Task supervision provided by the Sales Floor Coordinator.
Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.
- Provide own transportation to and from the ReStore.
- Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
- Cooperative and friendly attitude.
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
- Confidence in working independently.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to move and lift moderately heavy boxes of 20 lbs or more.
- Experience in library science or bookstore management.
