Purpose of the Position: To maximize ReStore profits through effective and efficient customer service and operation of a cash register.
Key Activities:
- Operate the cash register, check and credit machines in order to complete customer transactions.
- When necessary, complete paperwork that accompanies a transaction.
- When necessary, bag and package customer purchases.
- Be a resource of ReStore information to appropriately assist customers.
Location: Habitat for Humanity ReStore; 5501 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd. Durham, NC 27707
Time Commitment:
- Duration of 2 months or more.
- Minimum average of one shift (2 hours) every 2 weeks.
Required Training:
- An orientation to the ReStore and its volunteer program.
- Training and experience as a Sales Representative or Service Desk Associate
- A policy and procedural training session specifically for the register.
- 3 training/shadowing shifts at the register.
- Additional training sessions, as necessary, for review or store changes.
Supervision:
- Administrative support provided by the Volunteer Program Manager.
- Task supervision provided by the Sales Floor Coordinator.
Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.
- Provide own transportation to and from the ReStore.
- Maintain a cooperative and friendly attitude while working alone and/or in a group.
- Attention and precision to operate the register and machines and to handle money and paperwork appropriately.
- Willingness to adapt in a multi-faceted paced environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
- Prior experience operating a cash register.
