Purpose of the Position: To assist the ReStore in obtaining valuable building materials to be sold in its store through the deconstruction of single rooms and entire houses.
Key Activities:
- Strip room and home interiors.
- Remove roof, walls, and flooring systems of homes.
- De-nail salvaged lumber, and process salvaged materials.
- Use power tools as directed.
Location: Locations will vary from project to project but will be in Durham or Orange counties.
Time Commitment:
- Duration of 2 months or more.
- Minimum average of one shift (4 hours) every 2 weeks.
Training: Orientation, training, and task updates will occur on-site.
Supervision:
- Administrative support provided by the Volunteer Program Manager.
- Task supervision provided by the Deconstruction Manager.
Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.
- Provide own transportation to and from the ReStore.
- Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy items of 5-25 lbs.
- Ability to be alert at all times when on work site.
- Cooperative and friendly attitude.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to lift heavy items of 50 lbs or more.
- Comfort in working on a roof.
- Comfort in using power tools.
- Experience in construction.
