Electronics Technician

Purpose of the Position:  To increase the ReStore’s revenue capacity and customer satisfaction levels by maximizing the quality of the ReStore’s electronic merchandise and truthfully representing functionality and quality to customers.

Key Activities:        

  • Properly sort incoming small donations.
  • Test electronic donations.
  • Clean and price all sellable electronic donations in accordance with ReStore guidelines, and include information of the item’s functionality on its price sticker or tag.
  • Cart priced electronics items to their proper locations on the sales floor, and display them attractively and safely.
  • When possible, answer customer questions about priced electronics items, and assist them in re-testing the item on the sales floor.

Location:  Habitat for Humanity ReStore; 5501 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd. Durham, NC 27707

Time Commitment:

  • Duration of 2 months or more.
  • Minimum average of one shift (2 hours) every 2 weeks.

Required Training:

  • An orientation to the ReStore and its volunteer program.
  • A policy and procedural training session.
  • 3 training/shadowing shifts.
  • Additional training sessions, as necessary, for review or store changes.

Supervision:

  • Administrative support provided by the Volunteer Program Manager.
  • Task supervision provided by Store Manager.

Essential Qualifications:     

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.
  • Provide own transportation to and from the ReStore.
  • Cooperative and friendly attitude.
  • Confidence in working independently.
  • Integrity to fairly represent item condition to the customer.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
  • Experience in working with and/or repairing electronics items.
