Group or One-Time Volunteering

Purpose of the Position:  To promote positively enhance ReStore operations through the performance of necessary daily tasks and/or special projects.

Possible Activities:  

  • Sort, clean, and prepare donations for sale.
  • Clean and arrange merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Tidy donations and sales areas by sweeping the floors, shining glass and windows, wiping counters, and taking out recycling and trash.
  • Perform the responsibilities of regular volunteer positions.
  • Complete special projects.  

Location:  Habitat for Humanity ReStore; 5501 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd. Durham, NC 27707

Scheduling:

  • Contact with the Volunteer Program Manager must be made at least 2 weeks prior to anticipated shift date. 
  • Shift must be at least 2 hours. 

Supervision:

  • Orientation will be provided by the Volunteer Program Manager.
  • Task supervision will be provided by an appropriate employee or volunteer.
  • Additional supervision requirements apply for groups of volunteers under age 18 and individuals ages 13 and 14.

Essential Qualifications:     

  • For individual volunteers age 13 and 14, accompaniment of an adult age 18 or older.
  • For group volunteers under age 18, accompaniment of one supervisor for every five volunteers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.
  • Provide own transportation to and from the ReStore.
  • Cooperative and friendly attitude.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
  • Ability to move and lift moderately heavy items of 50 lbs or more.
