Sales Floor Representative

Purpose of the Position:  To increase customer satisfaction and loyalty, thereby increasing the store’s revenue-generating capacity, through strategic organization of its merchandise and attentive customer assistance.

Key Activities:        

  • Ensure cleanliness of the sales floor and ReStore merchandise.
  • Maintain the organization of ReStore merchandise by ensuring that items are placed appropriately and attractively and are safely displayed.
  • Check store tags for validity and pricing consistency.
  • Respond to customers’ questions and suggestions, and refer customers to appropriate employees when necessary.

Location:  Habitat for Humanity ReStore; 5501 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd. Durham, NC 27707

Time Commitment:

  • Duration of 2 months or more.
  • Minimum average of one shift (2 hours) every 2 weeks.

Required Training:

  • An orientation to the ReStore and its volunteer program.
  • A policy and procedural training session.
  • 3 training/shadowing shifts.
  • Additional training sessions, as necessary, for review or store changes.

Supervision:

  • Administrative support provided by the Volunteer Program Manager.
  • Task supervision provided by the Sales Floor Coordinator.

Essential Qualifications:     

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.
  • Provide own transportation to and from the ReStore.
  • Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
  • Maintain a cooperative and friendly attitude while working alone and/or in a group.
  • Ability to retain and communicate information about the ReStore’s layout, policies, and procedures.
  • Eagerness to maintain order and assist customers.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to move and/or lift moderately heavy items of 50 lbs or more.
  • Retail experience.
  • Expertise in building and construction materials, appliances, furniture, collectibles, and/or books.
